Human Intelligence v. AI Books

1 min read

Independent authors have been plagued by a recent flood of AI-produced books into the self-publishing space in recent years. And many authors are trying to figure out how to let readers know that their books were written by a human. One thing we grapple with is whether readers care how their books are written.

In my own experience, I often can't tell from reading a book's description whether it was AI-produced. I've suspected a few books I read might have been AI-written, but then again, it's possible they were just poorly written, not professionally edited, and rather formulaic and unoriginal. I do know that one book I listened to as an Audiobook had an engaging description and was a good price, but it was not only redundant and poorly edited (if at all), but also narrated with a clearly artificial voice. That's the first time I felt I could definitively state that the book was likely both AI-written and AI-narrated.

Competition is challenging enough for independent, self-published authors. So, I'm ready to pose the question to readers. Does it matter to you if a book is AI-written? If it does matter, then what would you say is the best way for me to let potential readers know that my books are written by a verified real person- me, even if I use a pen name? Should I include a "guarateed human-written" statement in the book description? I'd love to hear from readers. Feel free to email me: saralanghe@stlhrpublishing.com
